Greetings!
Over the last months, a small team of contributors was busy working on
some initial cleanup and improvements on the schilytools code base.
A release is planned for 2022-09-18, the one year anniversary of Jörg's
final release. I cannot promise to hit that date though.
Here's a preview of what is likely going to be in this release in no
particular order:
- (done) the contributors for previous and future versions have been
gathered into a new file CONTRIBUTORS
- (done) the README and CONTRIBUTING files have been updated to the
new git-based work flow
- (done) various spelling fixes and improved messages
- (done) bsh now supports ^L to clear the screen
- (done) conversion of the project to git
- (done) support for BLAKE2 in (lib)mdigest
- (done) libmdigest now prefers __builtin_bswap32 over inline assembly
- (done) LINKMODE defaults to dynamic for FreeBSD builds
- (done) the configure test for #pragma weak has been fixed for clang
- (done) C++WOPTS is honoured in SING, enabling exciting new C++ warnings
- (done) libstreamar is now linked with libiconv if needed
- (done) SING support for recent macOS has been fixed
- (in progress) tools will support and may possibly default to ssh over rsh
- (in progress) man pages and documentation will be updated to the new
project page
- (in progress) the build with gcc 2.7.2 on ULTIRX 4.4 will be fixed
- (in progress) many warnings in the sunpro code base will be
addressed, some bugs fixed
- (in progress) symbol versioning may be enabled for FreeBSD
- (planned) man2html will be deprecated in favour of Thomas Dickey's fork
after he has integrated Jörg's changes. Removal is planned for a future
release.
- (planned) unless we manage to obtain redistributable source, pxupgrade
will be removed from the distribution
- (maybe) do a full project history import from the SCCS files if we
manage to obtain them. It's in progress, but I can't say how long it
is going to take.

We also have the IRC channel #schilytools on the hackint and libera.chat
networks. Join us there if you have any questions!
If you have previously reported an issue or sent a patch to Jörg and it
has not been processed, do not hesitate to send it again. I do not have
access to Jörgs emails and do not know about any of these things.
Yours,
Robert Clausecker
