I spoke with a FUZxxl on Reddit about schily, he advised me to post here. 

A matter of months before Jörg left we managed to get the entire set of tools working on irix again. So I'm just posting here that I wanna maintain IRIX support in tree. As it is genetically very close to Solaris and is a wonderful operating system to work on I generally would prefer it to continue to benefit from this stuff. 

If there are any questions about the modifications that I had Jörg make related to IRIX lmk. He was confounded that we don't have ranlib for our stock compiler, all those functions are handled transparently by the linker
